Why EastBayFamily.com?
When we moved to the East Bay several years ago with two young children,
it was surprisingly difficult to find activities, programs, and outings. Over
time, we found that there is plenty of information available, but finding it
required a lot of effort: poring over newspapers, picking up flyers at schools,
doctors’ office, etc., asking friends, and more.
A Better Way
It became clear that there was a better way:
to provide focused information on children’s and family programs and
activities in one directory web site. So for about a year, we collected all
of those newspapers, flyers, friends’ recommendations
and more, and now we’ve put it all together for you on EastBayFamily.com.
Our Goal
Our goal is to make it easy to research options
for your family, so that you can learn about what is out there. We are not
trying to provide comprehensive information about the listings, since that
information is generally available on the programs’ own web sites or
with a quick phone call. We want to show you what the possibilities are — and
there are many of them in our area.
Our Focus
We decided to make the site very focused on the
area east of the Caldecott Tunnel, and south to San Ramon/Pleasanton. We made
this decision because we wanted to provide in-depth information, rather than
a quick overview. We’d
rather have you find five possible soccer programs in this area, than just
one choice in each of five different areas. And because time is limited for
most families, we wanted to provide options that could realistically fit into
East Bay families’ busy schedules.
There are also many listings that are outside of this area. Some of these
are highly specialized programs that are not widely available, but that may
be worth considering. Others are events or outings that are perfect for a weekend
or summer adventure day.
Help From You
The more we hear from you, the better the site
will become. We’d love
to hear your ideas for how to improve the site or for additional information
you’d like to see on it, and we’d appreciate knowing of additional
listings or events that can make the site a better resource for East Bay families.
